Commented visit of the “Phantoms” monument and the Ciry-Salsogne Christ Visit of the “Phantoms” monument And of the only Christ the redeemer of France Saturday May 24th 2025: one day, two Paul Landowski sculptures The Phantoms is a monument erected in 1935 on the Butte de Chalmont, in commemoration of the Battle of the Marne in 1918. Listed national monument, it consists of a group of soldiers and a representation of France. The group, 8 metres high, almost 9 metres wide and more than 4 metres deep, stands atop a set of steps. The small village of Ciry-Salsogne, which was badly hit by the 1914 war, bears a church that was rebuilt in 1924 by the architect Monestès, a friend of Landowski’s. The latter gave him a scale model of the Rio Christ the Redeemer. Standing 2.40 metres high, it is installed above the altar and is the only authentic copy of the Brazilian Christ.
