Monument to the Glory of French Armies

Place du Trocadéro, 75016 Paris 1956

This group, which recalls The Phantoms, was initially meant to be the center of an immense cavalcade that was to run along the supporting wall of the Passy cemetery. Landowski was forced to keep only the central motif meant to depict all the army corps of WWI. The project dragged on. “Ah, the happy medium between the monumental, the risk of coldness, that of anecdote and pettiness!” (Journal 1952).
